A Giant from Finish folklore that lived in the underworld. He used the earth as a blanket and continuously slept. He had great knowledge of all the magic, lores and enchantments of the earth. One story tells of a ship builder called Vainanoinen who was constructing an enormous ship but realised that he needed three magic spells to complete it. He was advised to go to Tuonela were Anter Vipunen could be found. When the hero descended into the underworld at Tuonela, he found the sleeping Giant. Despite all his efforts Vainanoinen could not wake the Giant. Antero Vipunen sucked in the ship builder with an almighty yawn. Inside the stomach, Antero Vipunen used his shipbuilding tools to construct a forge. When the fires rose and the forge burned, the Giant woke up and vomited out Vainanoinen and magic scrolls and enchantments. Three of these scrolls contained the spells Vainanoinen had come for and thus he went back home to finish his ship.

But for those who love Vampires, lets not forget that Eastern Europe is their birth place. No film quite gives the Vampire spooks like Nosferatu (1922). However if you like it modern, Day Watch and Night Watch are interesting Vampire alternatives. Also the fantasy tabletop game Warhammer features an army called Vampire Counts which has been greatly inspired by Eastern European beliefs and culture.
