A horse of the sun in Norse mythology that with Alsvid, the other horse pulled the chariot across the sky. Its name means 'Early Awake'. Its chariot was driven by the sun maiden Sol. They are named in the Grimnismal chapter of the Poetic Edda by Snorri Sturluson. Both horses are often mentioned in descriptions of the sun.
Arvak has a magical rune on the back of its ear that was written by Odin. both horses have manes that burn very bright with fire and wear special barding that helps to cool them down as they fly scorching hot across the sky.
