Berrey Dhone is an old hag Giantess from the Isle of Man from the British Isles. In ancient Manx belief she was worshiped as a goddess and seen to be an Amazonian Giant. So big is she that her footprint can be seen on the side of the North Barrule Mountain where she lives. Berrey Dhone is extremely bad tempered and is tenacious in seeking out her enemies. She is known to traverse over mountains and water with ease.
The name Berrey Dhone translates as ‘Brown Berry’. There is a song called “Berrey Dhone” in which Berrey Dhone is an ox that is stolen and slaughtered by Cailleach Beare. However this is a confusion that has arisen from the original Berrey Dhone hag of the mountains mixed up with a story about the stealing and slaughtering of an ox.
