These were fierce Demons of the Bagobo Malay people of the Philippine Islands. They were humanoid beings with one large yellow or red eye in the middle of their forehead. They had curly fur, flat noses, and were tall and thin. They also had a hideous mouth from which sharp teeth protruded. They caused fear among people and haunted the jungles, mountains and cemeteries of the islands. However they were not the brightest of creatures and were easily tricked. They were nocturnal creatures that could not face the sunlight. One story tells how a cat evaded danger by pleading the Buso to eat its owner but only after it counted every hair on the cat’s tail. When the Buso had almost finished, the cat swung its tail. Dawn had come and the Buso was compelled to flee.
