The eagle that assisted the Greek god Zeus. He was his personal messenger and animal companion. One story states that an eagle came to Zeus before the Titan war as a good omen and he adopted it as his pet. Another story states that the eagle was once a King called Periphas who was such a great ruler that people considered him a god. Zeus became jealous and intended on smiting Periphas down with a thunderbolt. The god Apollon intervened and transformed Periphas into an eagle and sent the bird to be by the throne of Zeus. This bird was used to bring a man named Ganymedes up to the heavens to become a cup bearer for the gods.
