Eurydice was a Dryad, a forest Nymph who features in the Greek myth of Orpheus.

Orpheus was in love with Eurydice. After a happy relationship they decided to get married and celebrate their undying love. The wedding was most wonderful and as Eurydice danced through the golden meadows, Orpheus a fond musician played loving and sweet music.

Their happy days were not to continue much longer. As both were walking through the woods on a glorious day, Eurydice stepped on a poisonous viper which bite her in the ankle. Eurydice collapsed and laid dying by the tree. Orpheus tried everything he could to save her but he knew he could not. The only thing he could do was to play mournful music to ease her dying. he played and wept so much that the other Dryads of the forest came to him. They comforted him as he accepted that his wonderful Dryad wife had now passed to the underworld. The Dryads encouraged Orpheus to go to the underworld and bring Eurydice back to this world.

What then ensued was as difficult journey to the land of the dead where Orpheus would be taksed to get passed Cerberus the guarding dog of the underworld and then find Eurydice. Once he successfully found her he was told that he could not look back at her as they exited the underworld. They then journeyed back through the dark and eerie underworld. Finally they reached the surface of the earth and Orpheus looked back at Eurydice. At that moment, Eurydice became a ghost and was trapped in the underworld forever.
