One of the most popular Archangels form ancient scriptures. His first appearance is in the Old Testament Book of Daniel. He takes the form of an ordinary person so that he can help Daniel to understand his visions. He tell the prophet that he has witnessed what will be the end of days. He also features in the New Testament in the Book of Luke where he foretells of the birth of Jesus and the of John the Baptist. He visits the virgin Mary and tells her that she is favoured by God and holds a special baby named Jesus who is the son of God. In Islamic texts Gabriel appears before the prophet Mohammed as a medium for God to reveal the Qu’ran.
