An owl woman from the beliefs of the tribal people of New Zealand. Her main role is to protect people from harm and give them advice. She appears at night and is seen by one who will soon die. She also hoots to a group of people to warn them of visitors approaching. Sometimes she will fly ahead of others to protect and warn them of danger.
