The Lufferlang is one of the Fearsome Critters of the lumberjack stories from early America. The Lufferlang is a frightening beast that will attack anyone it sees. However what it fears the most is the sight of itself. It was therefore advised to bring a mirror with you when travelling in the woods to protect oneself from the Lufferlang.
