An emanation of the god Shiva. Pasupati lives in the forest and the woodlands and guards herded animals. He brought the arts such as music, plays, dance and painting to humans. He cares for humans like a shepherd for his sheep and humans are said to be the cattle of Pasupati. He takes the form of any animal. When there is an emotional contact with an animal, that animal is said to be Pasupati in the form of that creature. Pasupati is the lord of the forest spirits, the Vidyesvaras. Pasupati guides practitioners to realize the unity between all living beings.
