One of the Gigantes in Greek mythology. His name means ‘the Purple One’ and he ruled the other Giants together with Alcyoneus. He had the body of a human but had serpent arms and legs and snakes heads instead of feet. The Gigantes were born fully clad with armour and weapons and on creation they immediately attacked the Olympian gods. One by one the Gigantes were killed by Hercules. Porphyrion whished to avenge the death of his brother Alcyoneus and set out to kill Hercules. However he was diverted by Zeus who used the goddess Hera to seduce the Giant. While distracted Porphyrion was struck and killed by a thunderbolt from Zeus.
