The name means ‘sacrificial boar’ and it was the selected boar to be sacrificed to Freyr at the Yuletide festival in Winter. The people of the village would lay their hands on the beast and swear an oath before the creature was killed. A Shaman would predict the events of the oncoming year used the intestines of the creature. The boar was killed to ensure a good harvest for the coming New Year.
