This is a type of Taniwha from the beliefs of the indigenous people of New Zealand. The Taniwha are fairy creatures that usually take the form of an animal or some natural phenomena. They help and protect people from harm. Tuhrangi was a white dolphin that lived in French pass. He helped guide people through the harsh waters and saved those who were drowning, purely out of affection.
