Utnerrengatye is one of the 3 Caterpillars of Arrernte belief. According to them, Utnerrengatye and his two companions, Yeperenye and Ntyarlke emerged to the surface of the earth. By doing so they left a vast maze of tunnels and caves of the McDonald range of mountains. The area that they forged became known as the Emily Gap.

Utnerrengatye did not realise how dangerous the world above ground would be. Not long after sculpting the McDonald mountain range, they were attacked by the Irlperenye, green stink bugs with a ferocious attitude. Utnerrengatye unfortunately lost his life having his head bitten off by one of the stink bugs.
